Meet the team

Pacific Center for Leadership has been offering team and leadership development experiences and programs since 1987. Our facilitators bring years of practical experience and a proven track record of skillfully assisting teams and individuals to move to higher levels of performance.

 

Mike Shaw

Mike Shaw has been a facilitator with with Pacific Center for Leadership for over 25 years. He has gained a strong reputation for his ability to create an environment of trust, safety and confidence. As a member of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), Mike has designed and constructed a number of challenge course facilities in Western Canada.

Rob Turner

A member of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, Rob excels in creating a safe space for our participants; both in a literal sense and by providing license to be curious and try new things.

Althea Shaw

An experienced climber, hiker and long distance runner, Althea inspires all of us to keep “doing”, while sharing her knowledge and expertise in our technical set ups and safety systems.

Christo Grayling

Helping others to discover ways to live life to its fullest potential is the driving motivator behind Christo’s extensive career in team and organizational development. Since 1976 he has specialized in designing and delivering experiential learning programs that develop human potential and assist organizations to higher levels of performance by enhancing the quality of team work and their commitment to action.

Janet Miller

A firm believer in the power of people, Janet offers clients the opportunity to see what more is possible when trust and openness are embraced.

Cathy Thompson

A true entrepreneur at heart, Cathy provides a wealth of first hand business knowledge and experience to share with clients while encouraging the commitment and courage leaders need to succeed.

Geoff Powter

Author, mountaineer, clinical psychologist and speaker, Geoff Powter has been facilitating team and leadership development programs with Pacific Center for Leadership since 1989. Geoff is a faculty member at The Banff Centre,  and a certified facilitator of  numerous personality type inventory tools, such as MBTI, SDI and DISC profile.

Barb Hertell

With a background in human resources and outdoor education, Barb recognizes the power of using experiential learning as a metaphor to develop human potential.

Sue Panning

Bringing with her a calm, big picture approach to tackling some of the most complex situations, Sue draws upon her years of experience working with diverse groups to assist teams and organizations to grow and flourish.

Kim Bater

A dedicated community builder with a strong focus on creating opportunities for personal and organizational development through experiential practice make Kim a natural fit for our facilitation team.

Kathi Irvine

After a career in the banking world, Kathi took the bold step to assist other organizations with their business development. Primarily, Kathi focuses on organizational change, team and leadership development and knowledge transfer.

Elaine Broe

Elaine Broe is incredibly accomplished as an educator, program designer, and facilitator. Elaine has a Master’s Degree in Leadership with a focus on supporting employee creativity and change within an organizational culture.

Colin Funk

Colin Funk has spent the last 25 years working as a facilitator, director and theatre producer throughout western Canada. Former director of the Leadership Learning Lab and Creativity and Innovation at The Banff Centre, Colin currently works as a creative process facilitator with Pacific Centre for Leadership in Canmore.

Anne Ryall

Combining a love of all things mountains with over 20 years of experience leading outdoor based team and leadership development programs across North America, Anne adds a solid foundation to our team.

Dave Verhulst

Dave Verhulst believes the natural world is one of our most powerful teachers and mentors and is passionate about connecting people with the wisdom nature has to share. He has developed his own unique leadership capacities and style through work in government, private and non-profit communities throughout Alberta. With 15 years professional guiding experience, Dave has also worked as Executive Director of the Interpretive Guides Association, Fire Communications Officer for Banff National Park and cofounded Nature's Tracks Forest Play. He has a Master's Degree in Recreation Management, is an accredited Master Interpretive Guide and is a Wilderness First Responder.

Heather Walter

Teacher, trainer, group facilitator, writer and professional musician; Heather understands the importance of communication and encourages participants to connect through creative mediums.

Doug Leonard

An experienced senior level director with experience in the corporate, public, and not for profit sectors, Doug appreciates PCfL’s experiential methods of getting teams to perform in new and innovative ways to produce better results.
