and Experiential Outdoor Sessions |
Our Experiential Outdoor Sessions: Our sessions consist of a combination of experiential challenges and focused facilitated discussions designed to help teams learn more about how to become more effective. Participants will be invited to explore personal leadership and their potential to create the “most effective team possible”. The experiential challenges are the ‘practice field’ for participants to work together in a fun and interactive way. After each challenge, participants debrief their individual and team performance. It is during these discussions that the conversation is focused on what the team accomplished; how they made decisions, how they communicated, how they used their resources, how they personally contributed to the overall performance of the team. It is during the debriefs that participants often gain insights and awareness’ that can be integrated into their work environment. Respectfully, participants are encouraged to be aware of and to choose their own level of participation.
Our high ropes courses (at The Banff Centre, Nakoda Lodge and Brew Creek/Whistler) (click for details) consist of a series of obstacles constructed approximately 25 feet off the ground. Ropes and a harness secure participants as they negotiate the obstacles. The safety rope is held by teammates on the ground, who also provide support and encouragement. This intense experience stimulates risk taking, camaraderie, and celebration of personal and team accomplishments. It is ideal for quickly bringing a team together to build energy and momentum.
Implementation Phase: Using maps and compasses, teams implement their plan in a natural outdoor environment. In the field, teams often need to make decisions and adjust their plan in light of new or changing information. Following the implementation phase, teams review their results and measure their success based on their previously identified outcomes. This highly complex challenge helps prepare teams to succeed in a world of constant change and ambiguity. Rock Climbing: Our Rock Climbing sessions focus on developing trust, accountability and communication skills. Team members provide essential support that requires commitment to ensure each other’s success. The team will learn how to work more effectively together through these highly stimulating experiences in a spectacular mountain environment. Potential challenges are the following: Climbing and Rappelling: In small working units of three, participants will climb up and rappel down the cliff face. Our rock climbing sites are chosen for their variety of climbs, enabling accessibility for participants of varying fitness and experience levels. Participants consistently express the amazement and exhilaration of a Pacific Center for Leadership climbing session.
Integrating Insights: Following the experiential outdoor activities, our facilitators lead team discussions to help reveal insights and awareness’ specific to results, team performance and areas for development. This process is dedicated to ensuring participants understand their learning and build commitment to integrating their insights into their work and lives.
