Kayak Polo Bow
Valley Style – What is it?
-
FUN and friendly
competition for all ages and skill levels – EVERYONE is welcome!
-
A great way to build
boat/paddling skills and confidence
-
Shinny style in whatever
boats are available
-
Teams of between 3 – 5;
we generally take turns being the goalie
-
Game starts with a
sprint of one player from each team racing for the ball thrown into
the middle of the pitch
-
Object of the game is to
score on the other team (although we never seem to keep track of
scores.....:) after which there are centre line restarts
-
Pushing of other players
(on the shoulder, side or back) is allowed when they are in
possession of the ball (unless you request NOT to be pushed)
-
A player is allowed to
be in possession of the ball for max 5 seconds then you have to pass
it, shoot on net, or dribble it (throw minimum of 1 meter away and
paddle up to it)
-
No paddle fouls allowed
(for safety reasons – no reaching for the ball with your paddle if
someone else is using their hand)
-
Tackling of other boats
is allowed on front and back 1/3 of the boats (not to cockpit)
provided the other player has the ball
-
We take into
consideration everyone’s skill and comfort level. For example, if
you do not want to be pushed or do not have a consistent roll other
players will respect that and not push you
-
Don’t worry if you can’t
remember all of these rules! We’re happy to explain and remind
-
Helmets with facemasks
are provided – please bring a PFD
For official rules check the
ICF
website and check out u-tube videos.
Basic polo coaching is provided
during the pool sessions, also offered at the same time - rolling tips
and basic paddling skills.
